
Emotional Self Regulation
The term emotional self regulation may conjure up different ideas for each of us, perhaps ideas of self control and rigidity or a repression of emotions or just ignoring that nagging feeling. What I mean when I refer to emotional self regulation, is in fact far more powerful and profound, I refer to a state in which you are simultaneously fully aware and conscious of how you feel and also able to manage those feelings in a kind and gentle way, a way which involves self compassion and self care of which your heart grows full and you believe in yourself in a way only you can do. Imagine being able to calm your inner state however intense and centre yourself, to be able to love towards yourself in any situation, that is my aim. I have learnt ways to overcome heavy emotional feeling with love and that has been made possible by using bilateral stimulation based techniques like EMDR’s eye movements, or Brainspottings Eye Positions, or its contact item technique which helps you connect mind with body and heal, or EFT tapping which touches a warmth deep in your soul. This is no overnight miracle, but it really does work and it is profoundly powerful. Imagine you have millions of moments in your life that have left their mark in some way, these moments have a way of returning when similar events trigger a learnt reaction to the original stimuli, this generates an emotional feeling, this feeling often can be exaggerated in relation to the current event, it may trigger extreme behaviour that does not fit the current situation. With the techniques I can teach you and with some sessions one to one we can have a look at how you can manage your emotional state with love and care.
